BLOOM (a faith-filled Summer Camp!)

For all current 7th and 8th graders looking to volunteer!

This summer, a new faith-filled summer camp called Bloom will be running for children ages 4-7. The theme this year is “The Earthkeepers,” focusing on Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si about caring for the earth. It runs Monday, July 24th  - Thursday, July 27th from 5:30-7:30pm, and we are looking for teen volunteers to help out during the program! There will be a ton of fun activities to assist with. We are looking for help in the following areas:

  • Camp guides
  • Music aides
  • Craft room aides
  • Game room aides
  • Bible study aides

If you think you would be awesome at any of these roles, and are interested in volunteering, please sign-up by Friday, May 5th and Youth Minister, Hilary Froelich, will contact you with more information! We will require a brief meeting to make sure you are a good fit for the volunteer position.

Please contact the Office of Youth Catechesis and Formation with any questions!

Service Saturdays

All youth in grades 6-12 - are you interested in serving your community? Join in on Service Saturdays and serve those around you the 2nd Saturday of each month! We make connections with groups in our community that may need help.

We have served with:
  • Sylvania Area Family Services
  • The Victory Center
  • Nightingales Harvest
  • Food for Though
  • ....and more!

The service work ranges from helping at food pantries, to feeding the homeless, to helping the elderly, and more. There is something for everyone!

Service Saturdays are a fun way to gain service hours for school and Confirmation!

Click on the links below to sign-up for our current Service Saturday!

The links will be available 2 weeks before the service event, and will close 2 days before so that I have time to make proper preparations with the places we will be serving at.

Some Service Saturdays may have sign-up limits! If you see that all spots are full and you would like to be placed on a waiting list, please email me.

If something comes up and you need to cancel, please let me know by sending me an email at hfroelich@stjoesylvania.org by 3pm the Wednesday before so that we can allow someone else to fill that spot. If you cancel and do not let me know, you are put in jeopardy for participating the next month.

Plan on meeting in the West Meeting Room at 9am! This is when I will do a final check to make sure that everyone has arrived. Please do not be late! Our service sites will be expecting us at a certain time and we want to respect them.

Parents – I need 1 adult for every 4 students in order to run Service Saturdays! The adult’s responsibilities would include driving the students if we are going off-campus for the service event. If you plan on chaperoning, please sign-up as soon as possible as you are required to complete the VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children online program!

Please send me an email if there are any questions!

                                      God Bless!
                                          Hilary
